SAUTI SOL 'THE NEW BEAT OF EAST AFRICA'

Kenyans music passion has adopted a new turn making them to opt to listen to their own genres which to them has a local approach towards their culture and way of life. One group that has quickly emerged from the background to become recognized internationally is Sauti Soul, which means "sound of soul".

The group comprises of four multi-talented young men, Polycarp Otieno, Bien Aime, Delvin Mudigi and Willis Chimano, whom their music has taken a new dimension, being loved by all within East Africa and the rest of the world giving, Africa a new beat. The four met in high school and originally started as an accapella group. In 2005, after clearing their O-levels, they decided to take up music professionally. Musically, their inspiration comes from the music of Fadhili Williams, Daudi Kabaka and other established African artists such as Salif Keita and Lokua Kanza. They signed up with Penya Africa with Robert Waweru popularly known as ‘Wawesh' and are also part of the "Imekubaliwa Creative Artists Network" together with upcoming artists like Stan, Dela and Tiffany. Having had performances at Alliance Francaise, which was their little haven for nurturing talent and soon to be their exposure point, they participated in spotlight on Kenyan Music in 2006 where they were finalist and had their solo-concert in April 2008, "Sauti Sol" at the same venue. Ever since, the response has been magnificent and overwhelming. Their music is uniquely soothing, well rounded, easy to relate to, touch on many aspects of life giving a feel to deep thinkers from the cultural or old way of asking for a girl's hand in marriage to the fulfillment of working, law and order, love and of course in a very sweet way.

In August 2009, Sauti Sol went International, with the help of Penya Africa and held their first one month tour Concert in Europe dubbed, ‘Penya European Tour 2009',featuring Stan and Dela who are also signed by Penya. This was a good opportunity for the band to showcase their great talent and show the world a little of Kenya's musical scene. The tour saw them successfully visit and perform their songs in Sweden England and Netherlands. Currently the band is working on its highly anticipated 2nd album still under the Kenyan "Penya" Label and Wawesh
