BENJAMIN WEBI 'THE DIFFERENCE'



‘Outside my window’ is his hit song that premiered Webi in the industry and a new look and feel to the Kenyan music was experienced and is still being experienced to date.

Benjamin Webi, the eldest in a family of three siblings holds academic qualifications in Sales and Marketing, he finds joy in traveling, swimming, watching movies, listening to and discovering new music, and is the 'difference' in GOSPEL Music



A Recording and performing artiste,guitarist,singer an songwriter, Webi took music as a subject in Nairobi school, for the first two years of high school from 1999 through 2001 he learnt theory of music and playing the descant recorder.

He also participated in music festivals and symposiums, then moved to Mombasa in late 2001 to join another High school, Aga Khan Kenya secondary but since music was not an affordable subject, Webi couldn’t continue with it as a subject, and he was forced to settle for accounts. While in Mombasa, Webi joined the Winner’s chapel Choir as an instrumentalist playing the lead and bass guitars and has been playing the acoustic/ classical guitar since 1996.

Webi then moved back to Nairobi in February 2003 where he joined Joy Music & Creative arts as a student to pick up where he had left off his music theory until he sat for his grade 4 theory exams. In the same year, he began working there as an office assistant and thereafter, a guitar and elementary piano teacher, a job he held till March 2009.

Meeting Ben ‘Gittx’ Gitau and Steve ‘Steve- O’ of Soulchild records, in September 2003, saw the signing into the label and he began working on his debut album ‘OUTSIDE MY WINDOW’. The recording phase lasted two years and the album was released in 2005.

Webi stands to be credited for as he wrote all his songs,and played the guitar during the live recordings sessions, he worked with Richard Kasika on the recording of Kenyan based girl-group Bariki’s debut single ‘LEO NI LEO’ on a couple of songs on boy group The votaries’ debut album FAITHFULNESS and Collaborated with Kamau Karongo on the guitar recording on the title track of his debut album ‘NGORO YAKWA’. Wrote the songs on the All I Can Say Album and collaborated writing efforts with Neema, Rigga, and Blackman on ‘ Dance’, with Mbuvi on ‘Mbingu Na Nchi’ and the Song ‘Praise’, was written by Blackman.

He has performed at, NPC South main sanctuary and the Tabernacle Youth Church (TYC), AIC Ngong Rd, Ziwani, Good Tidings Church, Alliance Girls School, Moi Girls, BTL family show (Celebrating 25 yrs of existence), Parklands Baptist Church (Closet Concert), ST Andrew's Church (talent mania), NACADA (National Agency Campaign Against Drug Abuse) events, Kenya Music week 2006 at the Sarit Center Expo, Mavuno Church , Christ Church, Kunoni Educational centre, Rongai, Breakthrough Chapel international (BCI) – Mombasa & Nairobi, Lukenya High, Kitisuru Boys High,,Karura chapel (youth service), Eagles Christian Church, NPC Parklands/ Karen /Woodley, Windsor hotel, Laico Hotel (Amani Forum – A post- elections forum held and attended by various leaders and dignitaries across Africa), August 7th Memorial park (in various events), Black Diamond club Westlands. (Yes, I did gospel in a club!), ICC church, Groove party 2009 and a host of various events (including weddings) throughout Kenya.

Webi has also had the chance to share the stage with also the very talented,VUC (Voice United Choir), Bariki, Charity aka NILE, Kiki, Dj riq , Word Deep ,Mbuvi, Mission Driven, NPC-South Choir, Jobbie the rapper , Lena of Jog-C, Nameless, Harry Kimani, Yunasi, Neema, Chizi, Juliani formerly of Ukoo Fulani, Roghtone Ambasada, Kanjii. Astar, Rigga and Bupe of Hip hope, Holy Dave, Jimmie Gait, Sk Blue and a host of many other artistes, and he had the ultimate opportunity to share the stage with multiple award winning international artiste,Kirk Franklin and his choir during the 2007 Extreme life weekend concert at Kasarani stadium.

He has been nominated in the 2006 KISIMA edition in the two categories namely; ‘Best R&B artiste’ and ‘Most promising artiste’.

Also was, Nominated and won in the 2008 One gospel awards in three categories namely; ‘Best R&B artiste’, ‘Best R&B song- The place, from the album ‘Outside my window’ and Best Live performance(Performance recordings on the One gospel channel channel 331). This happened in South Africa.

In March 2009, Webi started what is called The Webimusic Project, which is a ministry and music Business.

Webi is Nominated in the 2010 edition of Groove awards: Album of the year- All I Can Say and Songwriter of the year

In November 2007, he had began work on a sophomore project that has featured production from Ben ‘Gittx’ Gitau now of Rhymex studios (on 'Mbingu na Nchi) and in October 2008, he signed with David ‘Blackman’ Muthami of Blackman Entertainment.

THE ALBUM, 'ALL I CAN SAY'
This is webi's latest album and it launched ata live launch concert at Alliance Francaise in Nairobi in 25th July 2009. This is a crossover album that carries the signature R&B sound. It has 11 songs, with a fusion of reggae, pop, acoustic, Neo - soul, Hip hop and Afro. The album features KORA award winner Neema Ntalel, KISIMA award winner, Mbuvi and All time favourite gospel Rapper, Charles Riga. The album is a BLACKMAN ENTERTAINMENT production.

Webi has a released single Video 'Forever' receiving massive airtime and great response. This is definitely a guy to watch out for.**see the video and lyrics on Lyric tab above the site**
