Its four days to the Grand finale and the hunt for votes intensifies with all remaining six contestants up on probation.There is hardly any show on television that has gripped an entire region with enthusiasm and excitement the way Tusker Project Fame has.
Emotions have run high with fans expressing both relief and grief as contestants are evicted from the TPF academy each week. With only 4 days to go, nine of the fifteen contestants have been evicted as the race heats up for Eastern Africa’s next superstar.
Of the six contestants left in the house, there are two Ugandans, two Kenyans with Rwanda and Tanzania each having one representative. The last standing Southern Sudanese representative, Paleki, was evicted during last weekend’s eviction show.
Who will walk away with the coveted five million Kenya shillings and the recording contract from Gallo Records?
Atete Gaelle (Tusker 1):
Gaelle is a cat with nine lives; she has been put up on Probation at almost every single nomination show but has always managed to make it back into the Academy. The beautiful Rwandese Law student has finally shed her shyness and has grown stronger musically each week
It has been refreshing listening to her and watching her take on such hits as Brenda Fassie’s “Vlulindlela” and “Wale Watu” by Khadija-Nin. She is a disciplined and hardworking leader as she marshalled the contestants during her week as the house captain. She has opened up a lot during the past few weeks and the public have gotten to see a side of her they would have probably never seen had she not made it this far in the competition.
This weekend she will take on the Judges’ choice song, “Time after time” by Cindi Lauper as well as j’aimerai que je te dise by Zao.
Amileena Mwenesi (Tusker 4):
Ami as she is affectionately known back home is a hotelier by profession with a deep, rich voice. She has however been on probation thrice since gaining entry into the Academy.
She has since toned down on what the judges termed as “over singing” and has displayed a willingness to learn while in the academy. She has grown tremendously with regards to her stage performances and her dancing skills are the envy of many in the Academy. She had a moving performance a few weeks back when she undertook Miriam Makeba’s “Hapo Zamani” and her own composition had afro neo-soul undertones.
She will take on Tina Turner’s hit, “What’s love got to do with it” on request from the Judges as well as “Jailer” by Asa during this final weekend in the house.
Steven Nyabwa (Tusker 10):
Steven, South C’s finest, has a deep baritone voice that always melds with his songs. On the Opening night, he performed the hit song, “Marcelina”, a popular benga song to raucous applause at the TPF Dome. He is quite a charmer and had at least three ladies in the TPF house vying for his affection.
Steve has been on Probation twice before and was saved by the public on both occasions. He was sad to see his close friend Paleki leave the Academy this past weekend but he went ahead to sing his fantastic own composition, “Nyar Suba” on Sunday.
This weekend the Judges chose Barry White’s “Just the way you are” for him to sing as well as “So Amazing” by Luther Vandross at the final shows.
Peter Msechu (Tusker 9):
Msechu is known all over East Africa as not only the contestant who loves eating the most in the Academy but also the funniest. He has shown prowess in performing African songs and has only been on probation once before. He thoroughly enjoyed himself when he went on the meet and greet during his probation period. He said that he likes probation because he gets to go out of the Academy and enjoy the sights and sounds of the outside world.
He had a great performance this weekend when the contestants performed their own compositions. He sang about anger in Swahili, a song titled “Hasira hasara”. He is another contestant who has shown remarkable growth vocally and has learnt to control his voice during his performances.
This weekend the charismatic contestant will perform Papa Wemba’s “Show me the way” as well as “Naomba nipate nafasi” by Mbaraka Mwinishehe.
Davis Ntare (Tusker 5):
If there is one thing East Africa can learn from Davies is that resilience and hard work pays. Davies is a repeat contestant from last year’s Tusker Project Fame where he was sent home during the Gala show. This year however, he has upped the ante and has thrilled the audience week after week with his performances.
“El Mariachi” as he is known back home fell in love with fellow contestant Gaga from Rwanda who was evicted two weeks ago.He has maintained his high energy performances throughout the duration of his stay here at the Academy.
He is set to perform Air Supply’s “I’m all out of love” and “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson.
Rachel Namubiru (Tusker 7):
The rising star has managed to impress Judge Ian on a number of occasions. It’s no wonder that she has managed to evade probation. Her most outstanding performance would have to be the duet with Amileena ; they sang Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston’s “When you believe”.
She is a fastidious student and as Academy captain she has proven herself quite capable of leading her team mates. She is also quite the performer and in the past few weeks has come out from the shadows to capture the audience’s hearts.
This week she is set to sing Whitney Houston’s timeless hit, “I wanna dance with somebody” that the judges have chosen for her as well as “Nikubambe” by Brenda Fassie.
The fate of the contestants is no longer in the hands of the judges. Viewers have the ultimate say on which contestant will be eliminated on Saturday and the eventual winner of Tusker Project Fame on Sunday.
The contestant with the least votes will be eliminated on Saturday with the remaining five battling it out for the top prize on Sunday at the Grand Finale.
